About the Turner House
Built in 1912 and nestled within the Rockwood Historic District, the J.W. Turner House embodies the Tudor Revival Craftsman style with its half-timbered façade, basalt foundation, and graceful flared gables. Designed by architect Carl Jabelonsky and built by John E. Anderson, the home showcases the fine materials and craftsmanship that defined early twentieth-century Spokane.
Over the years, it’s been home to several of the city’s leading citizens—from refrigeration pioneer J.W. Turner to Edgar Van Brundt of Washington Brick & Lime, to livestock leader Peter Murphy—each leaving their mark on both the home and the city’s story. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1997, the Turner House remains a shining example of Spokane’s architectural heritage and enduring community spirit.
